FAQ

General Questions

Here you will find the answers to all fundamental questions on the topic:

Microgreens - why bother?

Sprouts & Microgreens are young vegetables that you can conveniently grow and harvest at home in just a few days.

Because they don't grow into a complete plant, you'll find the same nutrients as in mature vegetables – but in a much more concentrated form! Many varieties, on average, contain up to 40x more vitamins and minerals per gram.

The sprouts also have a lot to offer in terms of taste. The different varieties provide an extra portion of crunch and freshness – in almost all dishes.

Last but not least: Growing your own vitamins is extremely sustainable. Normally, vegetables don't come from Germany during the winter. Microgreens & sprouts are not only regional – they even come directly from your windowsill!

Microgreens or sprouts - which is right for me?

Microgreens & sprouts come from the same seed - even the vitamin content is often very similar. They differ only in their cultivation method and taste:

Microgreens usually grow in soil and require sufficient light to grow.

Sprouts need nothing but water - not even proper daylight - and grow in just 3-7 days! We focus on sprouts because, especially for beginners, they are easier to care for and, with our mixes, also much more diverse than microgreens. This makes it easier for you to integrate them into your daily life in larger quantities and thus truly utilize their health benefits.

Questions about cultivation

Here you will find everything about growing sprouts correctly:

How much light and what temperature do I need for propagation?

When growing sprouts, a room temperature of approx. 18-22 degrees Celsius is ideal; you should avoid direct sunlight.

How does sprout cultivation work?

You will need: A sprouting jar with a holder and drip tray as well as suitable organic seeds. Find a spot away from direct sunlight.

Growing sprouts is as easy as ABC:

Put 1-2 tablespoons of seeds into the sprouting jar and soak them according to the instructions on the package. Then empty the water and place the sprouting jar at an angle. Now rinse it morning and evening by filling it with water, swirling the jar for a few seconds, and then pouring the water out again. Afterwards, place your sprouting jar back at an angle. After only 3-5 days, the jar will be full and your sprouts ready for harvesting.

How do I avoid unwanted germs and mold?

With the right environmental conditions, a lot has already been achieved: Make sure the room temperature is around 18-22 degrees Celsius.

Cultivation also plays a crucial role: Rinse sprouts at least twice a day and make sure you don't use too much seed. The water should always be able to drain (tilt!) and the sprouts should have enough space to breathe.

How do I clean my equipment after cultivation?

You can easily put our sprouting jars in the dishwasher or wash them by hand.

Questions about usage

Here's what you can do with sprouts:

How long can I store the mature sprouts?

You can easily store sprouts in the refrigerator for several days after harvesting - as long as you use an airtight container. Make sure to wash and drain the sprouts thoroughly after harvesting. Alternatively, you can use a salad spinner.

How can I use the finished sprouts?

Sprouts are excellent on bread, in muesli, in salads, or even in smoothies. For this reason, we have created our 4 exclusive sprout mixes precisely for these uses.

Can I eat all sprouts raw?

In general, with proper cultivation, you can eat all sprout varieties raw. Our seeds are microbiologically tested in an independent laboratory. There, the seeds are examined for harmful pathogens such as E. coli bacteria or salmonella. Each batch receives its own batch number, which can also be found on each label. This ensures the traceability of the origin at all times.

If you experience digestive problems with individual varieties, you can also try to blanch them slightly.

Questions about Seeds

Here we give you tips for each variety and the cultivation method in question:

Seed Origin & Quality Requirements

We prioritize regionality in our seeds. This means that all seed varieties come from Europe, and if possible, even from Germany.

Every variety is organic-certified (DE-ÖKO-006), ensuring the highest quality.

We test the germination capacity for each new batch and transparently share the current information with you, should anything unexpected be amiss.

How long do the seeds last?

If the seeds are stored airtight in a dark environment at approx. 15 degrees and a humidity of less than 35%, they usually last well over a year. The seeds will generally not "go bad" even then - however, it can negatively affect their germination capacity.

How long do I need to soak my seeds?

You can find the soaking times for each seed on its respective packaging.
